  Alumni Bio - Bruce Hulman
Bruce Hulman

Name: Bruce D. Hulman

Current Address: 7150 Pebble Park Drive

Current Occupation: Consulting Civil Engineer/Hydrogeologist

Family: None…I still haven't figured out how it works!

Significant other: Are you kidding me????

Children/ grandchildren/ pets: No

Previous occupations: None, I have always been involved in technical work.

What have you been doing for the past 37 years:

Another tough question. I will simply say, go to college, missed Vietnam , have been working and making friends. Also, glad to be around for the 40 th reunion!!

College/ other education:

BS (how appropriate) in geology, MS in geology and BSCE (civil engineering) all from Ohio State University

Interests/ Hobbies: Scuba diving, learning to operate a cell phone, working out (I haven't forgotten that), cooking and reading

Memorable trips/ job assignments/ activities: I haven't traveled much. So, I can't say anything was memorable to me. I did own a shotgun for a while and did participate in skeet and trap shooting. I even reloaded the shells. Imagine that! Bruce Hulman… ordinance man!!!

Parents and siblings - where are they now: My Mom still lives in Dayton . Actually, she lives in Kettering right behind Kettering Hospital in a condo. My sister Sonia (Colonel White Class of 1967) is the Chief Neonatologist at Crozier Medical Center in Philadelphia . My youngest sister, Jan (Colonel White attendance from 1968-1970) is an architect and does kitchen design the Rockville , MD area. She is married and has 3 kids.

Accomplishments/achievements: Becoming educated when most previously thought I was uneducable! I guess I showed them!!

Regrets: Hand farting too much and not paying attention when I should have. I guess I never really took anything too seriously. But, I have since learned there are things that come into your life that you need to take seriously…and I have. Also, not being more social as a teenager and limiting myself from being with people.

Do you think that your job/life is where you thought it would be when you were in high school?Why/why not?

I am not sure if I can honestly answer this question. I like what I do… but not to the point that I feel ecstatic. I do think life is the great soberer of young adolescent minds. I am still inclined to joke around…but not as consistently. Let's put it this way, I'd rather laugh and have a good time then sit around and be “into things” for which I have no control.

If you could start over, would you/would you not make the same choices you did the first time around? Why/why not? What would you do differently?

Well, yet another tough question. If I could start over, I would have definitely not socialized as I did when I was an adolescent. I would have tried to extend the boundaries of my circle of friends and just “be me.” As far as education goes, I have always technical inclinations… so being a geologist and engineer isn't far off the mark. I like the out-of-doors so the geology thing is good.

Favorite memories of Col. White: There are so many!! My freshman year in Dorothy Cousineau's home room sitting next to Jim Lake and Paul Troup. My sophomore year being Mr. Moyler's Spanish class and driving him nuts with my hand farts in the language lab. Getting into the fraternity, Phi Epsilon and meeting fellows who were nice guys…Bob Klein (class of 1961) is still a friend I see today; being in Mr. Faul's biology class. My junior year was sort of uneventful although I was in Mr. Nunemacher's chemistry class as well as having Ms. Hendricks for advanced algebra. She was an especially good teacher but I had no idea of how good she was until I was in college doing calculus. She was a special instructor indeed.

Teacher(s): Mr. Moyler, Mr. Faul, Ms. Hendricks, Ms. Cole

Classes/courses Mr. Faul's biology and physic classes, Ms. Hendricks' advanced algebra class

Activities: Acting like an idiot!

Classmates/pals: Bob Klein, John Wolfe, Simon Schneider, Leslie Mayerson, Paul Troup, Bruce Wallace, Bob Savage

Weekend events: Not much here other than going to the football games and other functions. I normally was on my own on the weekends. Going to social functions and such

Future plans: Who the hell knows?? I would like to just keep on doing what I do… I actually like it. I do like helping people… I never knew I was so philanthropic.

Retirement plans: None, really!

Words of wisdom/ comments/ messages for classmates: Always think lovely thoughts and as the Beach Boys once sang, “Be True to Your School.” Actually, because I am Jewish, I think I should say, “Be True to Your Schul.”
